NATURE OF WORK: The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides basic personal care and assistance with daily living needs to eligible tribal elders and vulnerable adults in their homes or at the Adult Healing Home.


  • Provide basic personal care and assistance with bathing, eating, toileting, dressing, and personal hygiene, positioning, transferring and walking.
  • Implement appropriate infection control practices.
  • Perform light housekeeping and laundry duties.
  • Prepare, cook meals and snacks and assist in feeding as needed.
  • Provide medication reminders.
  • Assist with shopping and other errands including medical appointments.
  • Provide companionship and emotional support as needed.
  • Document activities that occur while on shift.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of care, condition, progress and problems in order to report and discuss observations. Submits information in a timely manner.
  • Travel to client's home throughout service area.
  • Adhere to the Tribe and department policies and procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, department activities.
  • Work a varied schedule including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and other closures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within scope of licensure.


  • Knowledge of basic personal care needs.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA laws and confidentiality requirements.
  • Knowledge of the Nisqually Tribe and community.
  • Knowledge of medical supportive services.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to relate with the unique health needs of a Native American community.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to work effectively with Nisqually clients and families.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with community members, visitors and staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact with community members and to gain their confidence and trust.
  • Ability to safely lift, pull and push up to 50 pounds and safely and effectively transfer patients as required.
  • Ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality to ensure that the department is operated in an efficient manner.


  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Current and valid Washington State Nursing Assistant Certification or eligible for certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training or certification (required within 30 days of hire).
  • Negative TB test.
  • Must be dependable and prompt.
  • Must have physical ability to perform all duties as required.
  • Must have a valid Washington State driver's license and be insurable under the Nisqually Indian Tribe's insurance policy.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
