THIS IS A PERMANENT PART-TIME POSITION @ 24 HOURS A WEEK/ 48 HOURS PER PAY-PERIOD

NATURE OF WORK: This position is responsible for the performance of probation casework duties pertaining to adult offenders as assigned by the court. The incumbent will perform moderately complex probation work which includes investigations, development of plans, preparing reports, counseling, supervision, file maintenance, record keeping, and attendance at court proceedings.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide supervision of offenders placed on probation by Tribal Court
  • Refer offenders to treatment providers as required
  • Monitor compliance/noncompliance of probation conditions
  • Prepare various reports for the Court including pre sentence reports, violation reports, special reports, and discharges
  • Attend Tribal Court and provide testimony and recommendations as required
  • Maintain case files including written log of contacts
  • Work effectively with other agencies to include law enforcement and Tribal Prosecutor
  • Refer offenders to community service sites
  • May assist other departments as required
  • Participate in training as required

  • Interpersonal skills and counseling methods
  • Knowledge of relative cultural/social/economic backgrounds and resources relating to crime
  • Knowledge of casework principles and practices
  • Knowledge of modern principles of criminology
  • Knowledge of modern interview techniques
  • Maintains working relationships with other departments, initials, public, agencies and service providers
  • Knowledge of Tribal Court Systems and Tribal Law
  • Knowledge of Tribal Court Policy and Procedures and Practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of Legal Terminology
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Problem solving skills
  • Evaluating and assessing people and their behavior
  • Considerable computer skills
  • Ability to work in stressful related environment
  • Ability to work with violent or aggressive offenders or family members
  • This position requires minimum supervision and independent judgment calls

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Sciences, Social Work, Criminal Justice or related human service field and two (2) years of probation work experience OR an equivalent combination of recent appropriate experience and/or post secondary education
  • Must have valid Washington State driver`s license and be insurable under the Nisqually Indian Tribe`s insurance policy
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening test

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Control devices certification upon employment if approved
