NATURE OF WORK: This position is responsible for providing oversight and management of Holistic Health programs including both Traditional Healing and Traditional Medicine. This position manages and supervises the work of program staff and contractors and is responsible for supporting and coordinating the emotional, spiritual and physical health care of the patients of the Nisqually Tribal Health Center utilizing a compassionate and holistic approach to healthcare.


  • Directly supervise Holistic Health programs staff including selection, hiring, performance evaluations and corrective actions.
  • Attend trainings virtually or in person to remain up to date on all modalities of traditional and holistic healing.
  • Provide oversight and management of Holistic Health program operations including program planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of services.
  • Recruit, maintain, and supervise all contracted, temporary and per-project contractors for Holistic Health program services including traditional healers, spiritual facilitators, stress management, naturopathy, chiropractic, acupuncture, psychic herbalist and holistic medicine contractors.
  • Collaborate with other Health programs and other Tribal programs to enhance available services.
  • Participate in health services planning through interaction with Tribal Health Board and planner as required.
  • Assist in the development and update of all applicable policies and procedures for the Holistic Health programs.
  • Provide fiscal planning, development, review, monitoring, management and compliance of Holistic Health program annual budgets and grants, as assigned.
  • Manage, oversee, and train program staff in fiscal operations such as processing of purchase orders, requisitions, and invoices.
  • Coordinate staff development, team building, and necessary trainings.
  • Manage work schedules and organize specialty contractors and events.
  • Represent the facility at governing boards and meetings as directed.
  • Track performance measures and other programmatic data as required.
  • Collaborate with the Health Department Medical, Dental and Pharmacy programs to provide integrated and holistic healthcare services to all patients of the Nisqually Health Center to improve efficiency and quality in the delivery of healthcare services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American customs, traditions, and culture.
  • Knowledge of Indian Health Service programs.
  • A strong working knowledge of traditional, alternative and holistic healthcare services.
  • Knowledge and skill in personnel supervision and management techniques and principles.
  • Knowledge of patient safety practices and standards.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and other laws, rules, and regulations related to the security and confidentiality of data.
  • Knowledge of accounting and budgeting principles.
  • Experience working with basic Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Excel, Work and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of program, policy and procedure development.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, delegating, and supervising.
  • Skill in gathering and interpreting data.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, the community, staff, and external agencies.
  • Ability to research and prepare reports or other correspondence as required.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and exercise tact and good judgement in all contacts.


  • Bachelor's Degree in herbal or natural medicine, business management, health administration or a closely related field.
  • Four years' recent related work experience in a related healthcare field.
  • Two years' supervisory experience.
  • OR a comparable combination of approved education and/or recent related work experience.
  • Experience with alternative healing modalities and/or traditional medicines.
  • Experience in medical office, alternative care or related healing program operations, budget management, policy and procedure development and program development.
  • Experience leading, managing, and supervising staff.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable under the Tribe's insurance policy.
