NATURE OF WORK: This position involves accurate and detailed record keeping and compilation of data in a specialized computer system. The incumbent will assist the Business Office Manager to ensure financial integrity for the Nisqually Tribal Health and Wellness Center.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Posts, verifies, and reconciles accounts payable, accounts receivable, expenses, or other ledger accounts.
  • Prepares statements, invoices, purchase orders and vouchers.
  • Submits reports of business financial operations to the Clinic Business Manager.
  • Verifies and posts transactions to journals, ledgers and other records.
  • Completes basic and complex bookkeeping and accounting tasks.
  • Performs posting of cash receipts, expenses, or other transactions to journals or ledgers and verifies accuracy.
  • Reviews invoices, bills, vouchers, or other documents for corrections before entering into records.
  • Records organization's business transactions and retains all accounting records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Tribal, state and federal patient privacy of information legislation and requirements.
  • Ability to perform detailed work with numerical data and to make arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately.
  • Ability to prepare routine and proceduralized financial reports and records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain courteous and effective working relationships; and work with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient records according to tribal and federal patient privacy of information legislation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of Medical Bookkeeping experience OR a comparable combination of training and/or experience in medical billing and coding.
  • Experience working with Native American populations desired.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in Tribal PRC/IHS programs.
