GENERAL SUMMARY: This position is a key member of the dental team. It supports the dental team by performing a range of clinical functions such as chairside assisting, clinic maintenance and documentation comprise a significant amount of work performed. The position facilitates the efficiency of the dental team and works closely with patients.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS

Primary responsibilities are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform.   • Performs four-handed chairside assisting duties for all dental procedures.
  • Assist front desk staff as necessary in scheduling, telephone, and patient flow management.
  • Assist in patient referrals to specialty care.
  • Prepares patient and operatory for dental procedure including setting up the proper instruments as necessary.
  • Responsible for taking diagnostic digital dental radiographs.
  • Provide routine prophylaxis, SDF and topical fluoride treatment as assigned by dentist.
  • Perform routine dental laboratory procedures, including pouring and trimming models, constructing custom trays, fabricating base plates and bite rims in compliance with dental instruction.
  • Responsible for requisitioning and stocking supply and equipment inventory as needed.
  • Maintain the dental clinic to current NTHC dental program sterilization and infection control standards.
  • Recording treatment information in patient records and perform patient charting in Electronic Health Records as instructed by the dentist.
  • Establishes and maintains professional attitude and relationships with both patients and staff.
  • Maintain all HIPAA and confidentiality rules and regulations at all times.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience working as a Dental Assistant.
  • Tribal or public health experience preferred.
  • Registered as a Dental Assistant in Washington State or registered as a Dental Assistant in Extended Functions (RDAEF) in Washington State.
  • If registered as an RDAEF, must maintain current licensure without restriction at all times.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification within 3 months of hire.

This position does not supervise.

COMPETENCIES

Possesses the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the primary responsibilities of the position.

Ability to:

  • Work with children and special needs patients.
  • Read and write dental terminology and be knowledgeable in dental anatomy.
  • Use computer for scheduling, word documents and reasonable keyboard skills.
  • Explain to patient's post-operative instructions, preventive techniques and home care instructions.
