NATURE OF WORK: This position is responsible for assisting with basic accounting functions such as recording of expenditures, deficits, transactions, and receipts, and performing routine calculating and posting functions under direct supervision.


  • Assist with accounts payable and other routine accounting processes.
  • Assist with the collection, verification, recording, processing and storage of accounting
  • Manage the file room.
  • Monitor AP email address.
  • Compose basic emails and process mailings.
  • Distribute mail for Finance Department.
  • Assist outside auditors by providing supporting materials or documentation.
  • Prepare daily check batches, mail and pick-up lists.
  • Reconcile vendor statements.
  • Assist with contacting vendors for outstanding/unpaid invoices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Knowledge of bookkeeping practices, basic accounting principles, and office procedures.
  • Skill in the operation of a personal computer and standard office programs and equipment.
  • Skill in accurate and efficient data entry processing.
  • Ability to operate ten-key calculator by touch.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and technical terminology.
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team and to establish and maintain effective relationships with a variety of government employees and officials, and the general public.
  • Ability to maintain and practice strict confidentiality regarding financial information, records, and other matters at all times.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
  • One year accounting support or bookkeeping experience OR an equivalent combination of appropriate experience and/or post-secondary education.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal history and financial background check.
  • Must have a valid Washington State driver's license and be insurable under the Nisqually Indian Tribe`s insurance policy.
